About the Author
Hello! My name is David Tobe, and I live in the beautiful state of Colorado. I’m a theater enthusiast with a deep love for art and creative writing. Having grown up in California, I like to think I’ve a0lways had a flair for drama.
My first book began as a creative experiment. I had worked my way through the app that inspired the story, and after completing its storyline, I began imagining how I could write something similar while making it distinctly my own. I wanted to create a fresh story with a stronger, more magnetic connection between the two leading male characters.
I chose to write the book in first person because that perspective allows me to step into the central protagonist’s experience. It gives readers a vivid sense of what is happening, what the character feels, and how the story unfolds. My hope is that this approach helps readers connect emotionally with the character and feel as though they are part of the journey.
I also drew inspiration from my own relationship. Like Lucas and Marcus, the relationship I share with my partner happened when I least expected it. It became one of those rare moments in life when you can truly say you followed your heart.
I’ve always struggled with confidence. Growing up, I was often teased for being the chubby kid and for not being especially interested in sports. My interests leaned more toward the arts, and that sometimes led people to make assumptions about who I was. But I know who I am, and I wear that truth with pride.
There are still moments when my confidence falters, but I try to take each day in stride. I work hard for what I want, and I make a strong effort to finish what I start while giving it my absolute best.
Working in retail and hospitality has given me the opportunity to meet, work with, and connect with many different personalities every day. I love talking with people and hearing their stories. I also tend to imagine different scenarios and outcomes, which can be both a blessing and a challenge. When something difficult happens, it can sometimes pull me away from finishing what I started. Still, I remind myself to keep going, whether the outcome is good or bad, because trying my best is what matters most.
That same perseverance helped me publish my first book. Without the encouragement of my boss and the support of my partner, I may not have found the courage to share it with the world—let alone turn it into an entire series.
Think about it: the whole journey began with one casual idea inspired by something else. From there, the story grew as I added more depth, introduced supporting characters, developed stronger plot structures, and continued building the magnetic connection between the two leading male characters.
That process taught me how a single idea can become something far greater with enough inspiration, creativity, drive, and passion. What starts small can grow into something bigger than you ever imagined.
I sincerely hope you enjoy reading this story as much as I enjoyed writing it. More than that, I hope it encourages you read the series in its entirety and follow Marcus and Lucas on their journey together. I also hope by reading the series, it encourages you to follow your own path toward something you are truly passionate about.
Find what inspires you. Hold on to it. Let it propel you toward whatever you hope to achieve. With inspiration, passion, drive, and the desire to keep going, anything is possible.
The Mogul Empire
The Letters • The Quill and the Police Cap • The Ring • The Mirror & The Memories
The Letters
Throughout the series, each letter Lucas receives reveals another piece of the puzzle his parents left behind. The early letters confirm his identity, while Charles’s letter establishes Lucas as the rightful heir to the McVain Magazine Empire.
At the end of Book #2, Charles gives Lucas another letter along with a family tree. Together, these items become essential clues that will help Lucas face the obstacles waiting for him later in the series.
Readers will discover that Lucas’s family includes several powerful magazine moguls, each overseeing publications in different parts of the world. As the story unfolds, only one or two family members may rise to the very top—potentially leading the empire toward greatness or complete catastrophe.
The Police Officer and the Mogul
The Police hat and the quill with parchment is significant to the series because it's about a police officer falling in love with a magazine mogul. Even though, Lucas doesn't find out his true destiny until the end of the first book, he has always been the mogul his parents wanted him to be. From running the editorials at school, to running the fraternity, he has always been a true leader and never steered away from reaching his potential. It wasn't until he met Marcus, that he finally developed the confidence he needed to become a raging success. With collaborations with others around him, and with Marcus's unconditional love, Lucas was able to find his own corner of the sky.
The Ring
The ring is a family heirloom that Marcus used to propose to Lucas. Its importance extends beyond the proposal: in book #2, it is revealed to be the same ring Constance gave to Howard and the symbol identifying who would ascend to lead the family’s magazine empire.
The ring also connects to a recurring red-and-purple motif throughout the series. This color combination acts as one of the triggers that helps Lucas recover his memories.
-
Cecelia, the family cook, owned a red-and-purple stool that Lucas used while helping her in the kitchen.
-
Clarice wore a dress with an apron in the first book that echoed the same color pairing.
-
Red is especially significant because it is prominent both within the family and across the empire.
The Familiarity and the Empire
Familiarity, food, memory recovery, and the family’s magazine empire are prominent themes throughout the series, secondary to the central love story between Marcus and Lucas.
Marcus uses food to capture Lucas’s attention and begin building a bond between them. Though it may seem like a small gesture, food can become a powerful trigger for memory, emotion, and trust.
Familiarity becomes especially important as Lucas slowly regains his childhood memories. Each recovered memory strengthens his connection to Marcus and makes it easier for him to trust him.
The recurring red-and-purple color combination also serves as a memory trigger, largely because of the stool Marcus’s mother let Lucas use when he helped her cook. Red carries additional significance because it is a prominent and meaningful color within the family.
The family’s magazine empire is another major thread in the series. Its origins trace back to Charles Sinclair and continue through generations of the family. As the empire expands across six continents, the story builds toward a central question: which family member will ultimately take on the responsibility of leading it in its entirety?

The Love Story of All Love Stories
Revealing the Empire
After Lucas is abducted by his nanny, Loretta Vaughn, Howard McVain entrusts Marcus Voscque with the task of protecting his son. Marcus, the son of Cecelia, the family cook, is driven by both duty to Howard and his deep love for Lucas.
Determined to bring Lucas home safely, Marcus continues searching for Loretta until he finally discovers where she is hiding. With careful planning and the help of Sergeant Brooke Mills, Marcus is able to stop Loretta’s schemes and secure Lucas’s safety.
Once free, Lucas is able to claim his inheritance: the McVain magazine empire. What began as a weekly magazine eventually evolves into a ten-title publication, continuing to expand under Lucas’s leadership.
